HOPETOWN

Hopetown, about an hour plane ride from South Florida, is on Elbow Cay, one of a chain of small islands that lie off the eastern shore of Abaco. It's quaint charm and friendly residents offer the visitor the perfect vacation retreat. Long white sand beaches, crystal clear waters, nearby reefs, and the waters of the Bay of Abaco are ideal for sunning, swimming, snorkeling, diving, and fishing. It's your dream of paradise come true. Once you have experienced it you'll want to return again.

GETTING TO HOPETOWN

Marsh Harbour International Airport, Abaco, Bahamas services the Hopetown area. Several carriers provide scheduled flights to Marsh Harbour from Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, and Orlando. Reservations can be made through your travel agent. Once you reach Marsh Harbour you must clear customs.

Be sure you have proper ID for Bahamas immigration.  You will need a passport for this. Infants and children must also have passports.  Once you have cleared customs you'll take a taxi to the ferry dock.  Tell your driver you are going to Hopetown.  The ferries make several runs a day to Hopetown.  Tell your ferry captain that you are going to Katie's Cottage.  He'll call ahead to our caretaker, Bonnie Hall, and she'll meet your ferry arrival in Hopetown and take you to the house.  Don't forget to ask any questions you may have.  Should any problems arise please contact her on the VHF. Her call sign is Albie's House.

RENTAL SERVICES AND FACILITIES For boat rentals in Hopetown contact Seahorse Marine, Island Marine or Cat's Paw.  For fishing charters you may contact Lucky Strike, Sea Gull, or Foxchase.  For bone fishing contact Wild Pigeon.  Contact Froggies Out Island Adventure for dive trips.  All of these can be reached on VHF.

DINING OUT Hopetown Lodge, Abaco Inn, The Boathouse at Sea Spray, Harbour's Edge, and Captain Jack's all have dining rooms and bars. Try Munchies for light meals and ice cream.

SHOPPING There are two well-stocked grocery stores, a liquor store, and several nice gift shops in the village. ALL stores are closed on Sunday.

TELEPHONE There is a telephone station in Hopetown along with two telephones. One booth is by Vernon's Grocery Store and the other is by the Hopetown Clinic. Should anyone need to contact you in an emergency they should contact Bonnie Hall at 1-242-366-0394 and the message will be relayed to you.
